last night, i deactivated my facebook account. what a weird thing to do in our world today, huh? however, i collected all of my friends email addresses and blog url's (if they were up in the "info" section), and put them in my address book. then i clicked deactivate.
why?
i found myself in tears again last night. and i realized that every time i have gone onto this "social networking site" lately, i would leave feeling less happy, if not downright upset (sad or angry). there is so much good people can do, and i love being connected to my friends, seeing how they are doing, looking at their photos of fun and chaos.
but because it is so easy to just "comment" or "like" what someone says, thoughts are not always carefully put together and revised, and some things are just downright insensitive. seeing as my hormones are even more insane than normal these days, that's not so good for me. and i have been able to learn about various happenings via fb, so sometimes it creates an awareness of issues.
but. i find myself trying to defend my beliefs more often than not. all i really wanted to do was to share what i had learned, or what was making me happy. and people would want to argue my point, or make me rethink my stance. a lot of this has to do with my current pregnancy, future birth, and future choices for my son and other children. but there were also issues of morality, modesty, sexuality, and just the constant barrage of foul language.
so i've decided to start my week off differently. no more facebook. no more defending myself. no more crying over things i can't change, and thus damaging relationships that should never have been hurt by careless and/or poor word choice.
i'm keeping my blog, where those who would like to can keep up with my life. but i'm not going to let fear rule my existence. i'm not going to let anger blur my vision. this blog is for me to get down my thoughts. so sometimes i will be frustrated. but it's going to be a safe place for me, not a busy highway of chaos and confusion that rules the world nowadays. i'm not saying i want to be ignorant. i just want the ability to research topics and discuss them without the prejudice and the anger.
i know i felt better last night, and still feel better. i believe my days will be filled with more happiness from now on!
