last month i...

... got to see my husband for two weeks!  it was wonderful.  i thought i'd jot down some notes so i don't completely forget what all we did and saw.

the first few days he had a work detail, so aaron and i stayed in the hotel watching tv and playing with toys (it was either boiling hot or thunderstorm-ing).  but memorial weekend we left the base and went to see his family.  first up were his grandparents, who had yet to meet aaron!  it was great to see them, especially since i am just getting to know them myself.  we went to dinner and mimi held aaron as much as she wanted, telling me "he can do whatever he wants" (because i kept freaking out over his little messes or when he got into things he shouldn't, etc).  it was great.  aaron really enjoyed sitting in their backyard watching the birds, and then playing in the little water fountain.  he also tried grits for the first time - he is definitely his daddy's boy!  he ate all of it, and wanted more.  it was good for me too, because i got to enjoy all the photos they have and listen to their stories about all the kids and grandkids.  so awesome.

then we drove down to charleston to see joey's mom.  it was so great!  i kind of had a mini-breakdown because i forgot my fancy/expensive new dress at the hotel on base, which i was going to wear for the first time on this mystery date joey had been planning for a few weeks.  but after freaking out for about 10 minutes we got in the car and i got a simple new dress, and joey and i were off on our date (aaron getting to hang out with marmie and watch cars on her front porch!).

he surprised me by taking me on a dinner cruise, around the charleston harbor.  it was sweet.  and the food was great too.  i even tried the she crab soup (i am not the biggest fan of sushi or any fish), and actually liked it!  joey and i were able to just talk, not worrying about feeding or entertaining our little monkey.  and joey was my own personal tour guide, pointing things out as we cruised around the harbor. it was wonderful.

the next day we all went to the spoleto festival!  it was awesome, just walking around looking at the art, food, and plentiful vending.  i came across a new favorite artist, carl crawford.  he cuts out magazines and pastes the pieces together to create works of art, like his rendition of alvin ailey's "revelations".  (if you don't know what that is, go look it up.  you can thank me later.)  it is beautiful!  i wanted one to have, but of course he's not mass-producing his works and i don't have tons of money for a collection piece.  but i got a bible organizer and mug with one of the works printed on it, so that was cool :)  also, while we were there we met up with one of joey's friends and his girlfriend, which was great because we never ever ever see them.  aaron played in the fountains downtown, and we all just enjoyed the sun and some catching up.  oh, also, for dinner we went to moe's.  did you know their drink machines are touch screens pretty much?  weird!!

later that night joey and i finally went to see "the avengers" - yay!  i loved it, and while i did not thoroughly enjoy some of the characters on their own, all of them together were fantastic.  it was an awesome movie that joey and i discussed for a while after, which is always fun, while enjoying some sonic shakes.  (yes that makes for date #2 in one weekend!)

the next day was sunday, and we went to church and saw all the familiar faces that joey grew up with, which is always great - especially as joey could then show aaron off.  he charmed everyone like he always does.  (i know you're thinking "who, joey or aaron?".  i just say "yes".)  then joey took me on date #3!  he surprised me with tickets to see alvin ailey!!  it was AMAZING!  getting to the theatre was not so awesome because of the festival, but we made it (joey just barely, after parking!).  i loved it all, even though it made me all emotional since i'm not personally dancing right now.  and it was great to share with joey - don't you just love sharing something with your loved ones, something that means so much to you?  i know i do.

after such craziness, we spent a quiet night watching ocean's twelve, which i had never seen all the way through.  i was the only one who stayed awake through the whole thing haha.  it was so good to see momma though and let aaron have some marmie time.

the second week we had with joey was spent mostly just hanging out on base, in the hotel or at the park.  we did go to the airborne museum, which is huge by the way!  it was really cool, although my brain was overloaded with information because i wanted to read all of it, so by the end i just had joey tell me the main points (they have the entire history in there, which is from WW1 to now... with each unit or battalion or little group that got lost... yeah, tons of history!).  we also went bowling, and all i will say about that is that i made joey promise me will only ever go again if the kids want to - and they have to at least be 5.  but we definitely enjoyed the park and the swings - i got some great pictures from it :)

while aaron and i were there joey was told where we are headed to, so that was pretty cool.  (georgia.)  we were able to start planning and looking at things pertaining to the move and when we live there, which always makes me excited because i love a new adventure.  the whole trip ended on a low note what with our first flight being delayed 2 hours so our second flight had to be rescheduled, then that flight kept getting pushed back... by the time we got home i had been up for 24 hours and we had been in an airport/airplane for about 12 hours, with aaron...

it was so worth it though :)
