{disclaimer: i don't know how much time i have so this will be quick, sorry if it's rambling or funky sounding or anything like that... nap times contain very precious moments so i have to use them wisely! :) }
yesterday i did my first official workout since ana's birth. because let's be real, taking care of an almost 2 year old and a newborn means every day exercises ARE workouts (you need me to pick you up and hold you while making dinner? you want me to spin you in circles as you say "superman" over and over again? etc.) i most definitely have been careful to listen to my body and make sure to not over-do it... but i didn't want to UNDER-do it either!
i've been doing little things throughout these past three weeks, but this week it was time to move again. so i followed a basic cardio routine i've been doing for a while now, which starts out with some yoga, goes to some kenpo, and then some plyometrics, and then just random little cardio exercises. after 40 minutes (warm up/cool down is important people!) i can't believe how wonderful i felt.
but it was amazing from the beginning. i've never been a fan of set workouts. they're boring and it's hard to picture the real life applications - take jumping jacks for example. when do you see someone doing jumping jacks for a real life need?? exactly.
but it didn't matter yesterday, because i was moving and it felt WONDERFUL! i was amazed at how light i felt moving through the space, how great it was to pull my knees all the way up to my chest, the incredible sensation of feeling my feet roll through the floor as i hopped from one foot to the other, the way i could feel my entire core contracting and releasing... being pregnant is a wonderful blessing, but i have missed having my body to myself!! i felt beautiful, from way deep inside all the way out. taking a deep breath and feeling it fill every bit of me, bending in half to touch my toes and feeling the muscles all the way up my legs and back, i mean every. little. thing!
i went through the workout quickly, because i didn't know how long i would have both of them asleep (i said the longest prayer of thanksgiving afterwards because they don't normally sleep at the same time for AN HOUR AND A HALF!)... but i still tried to enjoy every second. i don't think i hated it for even a moment. it was amazing.
same thing with my quick little yoga routine i just finished. golly it feels good to stretch and balance and just BREATHE! so here's the bottom line of my little soap box today: go and move, and just REVEL in what your body can do, right now in this moment!! love and appreciate what the Lord has given you, because it IS a blessing. think about every tendon, every joint, every blood cell, and be amazed at how every part of you is working together in perfect harmony as you enjoy moving! you will finish smiling, i promise.
(thank you robin and kathleen especially for teaching me to do this on a regular basis!!)
