TWO YEARS

dear aaron,
i don't even know where to begin.  i can hardly believe it's already been two years since you've come to our family.  you have brought so much joy and light into our lives, and have taught us so much.  you are my big helper, and entertainer, and wonderful snuggler, and a million other things.  you are everything i could have ever wanted in a little boy, and so much more.  you truly are a blessing from God, and i'm so grateful that He has entrusted us with your care and growth!  you are amazing, and i hope you never forget that.

- your speech is constantly improving and your vocabulary constantly growing.  i may be your translator for a lot of exchanges, but you do very well on your own, too!  this growing vocabulary has definitely helped mommy and daddy because of the little parrot that you are, which has actually helped bring the spirit into our home as we try to respect and show gratitude for each other more openly, and just overall be the best examples we can be for you.

- you love to help mommy with anything and everything i do: dishes, laundry, brushing my hair, sweeping, etc...  and you do a pretty good job too!  i was very impressed with how quickly you caught on to how i fold your diapers.  let's make this a lasting habit, ok?  :)

- you love to help with ana.  be it diapers and clothes, bath time, or even feeding (funny story!), you are such an amazing big brother.  ok so for the story:  ana was laying on mommy's bed while mommy was doing laundry (which you were helping with of course).  she was getting hungry, so she started fussing.  you put down the shirt you were folding, and reached your arms out to ana as you looked at mommy and said, "up?".  you were trying to hold her.  you then lifted your shirt and said, "ana feed?  aaron snack?"  (i nurse ana with "mommy snacks" for those reading this blog...)  it was HILAROUS and adorable all at the same time and thankfully nana witnessed it via skype because i can't actually tell the story without bursting into laughter.

- you are such a little sponge when it comes to ... everything!  names, movement, skills, quite honestly everything!  so far my favorite is doing yoga poses, or realizing how often i say certain phrases because you repeat them out of nowhere.  (for example, yesterday when nana wasn't home to answer our skype call you said, "ohhh shoot.")  oh, and of course this one: saying, "yes, sir!" complete with hand-to-forehead salute.

- you are so compassionate.  for example, we took kitty to the vet this past week, and because mommy had to put her in the carrier she was meowing quite obstinately.  you were concerned and asked, "kitty ok?"  and i told you we were taking her to see the kitty doctor.  you then proceeded to tell the kitty, "ok, doctor kitty doctor" for most of the way there (as she proceeded to meow most of the way).  you also want to make sure i hear when ana is crying, or anyone else for that matter.  you really have the biggest heart, which melts mommy's.

- you remember things from earlier and have started relating them.  an example of what i mean by this: daddy came home for the weekend, and while sitting on the couch you told him how you went to the water park, and took the cat to the vet, and several other things from that day - without being prompted!

- you love the pool.  you're getting the hang of being in the water by yourself (with a life-jacket of course), and have started kicking your legs while daddy swings you around.  it's great bonding time with daddy :)

- mommy has finally let you start helping with cooking.  (not because you couldn't earlier, but because mommy couldn't handle the mess.)  you are great at mixing and using the hand food-processor (as in, not electrical).  this means you are also a great food-tester!

- we got our blender back, and on the first day mommy filled your smoothie cup FOUR times!  it was all you wanted, all day long, and for half of the next day.  makes mommy happy :)

- you gave yourself a haircut this month.  (just a not-so-little section, right at the front.)  mommy was cutting daddy's hair with the big clippers, and gave you the little clippers to hold so that you could get used to the idea of mommy using them on your head.  because the big clippers are so loud, when i saw you hold up the little one and say "hair cut?" i didn't realize you had turned it on and were asking to do it, instead of asking if that's what it does... next thing i know, daddy is laughing so i look up to see you had shaved some hair!  good-bye sweet little boy haircut (yes i know your hair was long but i was still styling it!), good-bye because this left me no choice but to cut the rest of it.  later in the shower with daddy you pointed to your head and said, "ranger haircut?".  oh yes, dear, ranger haircut.  sigh.

you bring so many smiles into my day i just don't know how i managed without you.  thank you for teaching me, little monkey, and thank you for wanting me to be your mommy.  i love you so so so so so much!  happy birthday!
